Amos Hart was born in Hartest(4th qtr 1887 Sudbury 4a:663) son of Edward and Anna Maria HART (née CADGE).

1891 census...Aged 3, he was at Mount Cottages, Lavenham Road, Thorpe Morieux with his father Edward HART [26] farm labourer born Cockfield; his mother Anna M [26] born Hartest; brother William [15 months] born Thorpe Morieux.

1901 census...Aged 13, a gardener's assistant, he was at North End, Hartest with his parents (father now domestic gardener); brothers William, Ezra [7] born Thorpe Morieux, and Jesse [4] born Hartest; sister Ruth [3 months] born Hartest.

He married Annie PRENTICE-GARNHAM in 1909 at Wayland.

1911 census...Aged 23, a domestic gardener, he was "near Gun Hill", Dedham, Essex with his wife Annie and their son William Amos [1] born Besthorpe, Norwich. Another son, Cecil Edward was born later in 1911.

The pension card, which omits his children's details, has his widow at Broom Road, Wattisfield, Wymondham. CWGC have her at Thurlton, Norton, Norwich
No documentation has been found that connects him with Horringer, but his parents and siblings were at Manor Lane, Horringer in the 1911 census.


He enlisted in Colchester when resident in Dedham.
Dying of wounds, and no service record found, it cannot be said exactly where or when he was wounded. Mount Cavalletto was a medical centre in the foothills of the Alps serving those urgent cases who would not survive the difficult journey to hospitals in the plains below
