Joseph Taylor was born in Hundon on 9th August 1880 (Risbridge Q4-1880 4A:521), son of David and Caroline TAYLER (née LING). The family name can be TAYLER or TAYLOR

He was admitted to Hundon Board School in April 1884, leaving 29th September 1894 to become a farm labourer.

1881 census...Aged 11 months he was at Mount Pleasant, Hundon with his father David TAYLER [29] farm labourer; his mother Caroline [27]; sisters Eliza [7] and Emma [3]. All were born in Hundon.

1891 census...Aged 10, he was at Babel Green, Hundon with his parents, sisters Emma and Rose [7];brother John [4]. The new siblings born in Hundon.

1901 census...Aged 20, a farm labourer, he was at Lower Road, Hundon with his parents and brother John.

He married Jane Stiff ORRISS [5-3-1883] in Q2-1904. They had two daughters, Flossie [19-7-1907] and Lily [29-9-1911] living at Hammond's Farm, Hundon. Jane re-married in 1919 to Harry MAYES.

1911 census...Aged 29, horsekeeper, he was at North Road, Hundon with his wife Jane [28] born Hundon and daughter Flossie [3] born Hundon. His parents were still at Lower Road, Hundon, with a grandson, Harry [6] born Hundon..Parentage not yet known.

After his death CWGC have his widow as Jane S Taylor, Hammond's Farm, Hundon

He enlisted in Clare .
At the end of April 1916 the 2nd Suffolks were in the trenches and shelters at Kemmel. They suffered some gassing but only lost 2 men so far in May. As ever, when a man dies of his wounds it is difficult in the absence of his Army records to ascertain exactly where or when he was wounded.

There is another very definite error here, he has the 1914-1915 Star and yet the note gives a 1916 date of entry into the theatre of war and that entry is after the date of death

Joseph Taylor is buried in Lindenhoek Chalet Military Cemetery, grave 1:B:3
