Robert Kenneth Ranson was born in Lawshall (1st qtr 1886 Sudbury 4a:684) son of William and Anne RANSON (née BUTLER).
The CWGC has him as Kenneth, the Army used both Robert and Kenneth
1891 census...Aged 5 (Kenneth Robert), he was at Melford Road, Lawshall with his father William RANSON [50] grocer/draper born Hawkedon; his mother Anne [48] born Witchampton, Dorset; brothers John [17] school monitor and Albert C [13] and sister Mildred E [15]. All the children were born in Lawshall. 1901 census...Aged 15,(Robert K) a carpenter, he was at Audley End Road, Lawshall, near the Rectory with his parents and sister Mildred. 1911 census...Aged 25 (Kenneth) in the 3rd King's Own Hussars, he was at Roberts Heights, Transvaal, South Africa. He enlisted in Bury St.Edmunds. The battalion was part of the retreat from Mons, so it must be that his relatives failed to claim the clasp for his 1914 Star.
