All the children were born in Lawshall. 1911 census...Aged 11, he was at Cooper's Farm, Lawshall with his parents; brothers Thomas [21] and Ernest (both farm labourers; sister Anne [9] On the pension card his mother was at Cooper's Farm, Lawshall. |

He enlisted in Ipswich
On 1st.2nd November the battalion were advancing east, and had passed through Preseau when a counter attack forced them to withdraw through Preseau. They consolidated to the west of Preseau,on a ridge (the green line below)
