1901 census...Aged 1, he was at The Green, Lawshall with his father Herbert TODD [30] farm labourer born Stanningfield; his mother Rose [29]; sisters Viola [5] and Alice [3]. All except his father were born in Lawshall 1911 census...Aged 11, he was at The Green, Lawshall with his parents, sisters Violet, Alice, Blanch [7] and Florence [3]. His mother had lost 3 of her 8 children. On the pension card his mother was at The Green, Lawshall. |

He enlisted in Sudbury. The war diary has :- AVELUY WOOD...1st June 1918.. 3:25 am ..Y and Z Coy in conjunction with 3 Coys of 64 18th Lanc Fus on the right, attacked the western edge of AVELUY WOOD under cover of a barrage put down by heavy and field artillery supported by Machine Gun and Lewis Gun fire. 5:5 am... Both Coys reported back. Heavy casualties inflicted on enemy, many prisoners and several machine guns taken. Regiments identified 139; 179 and 133 IR (24th Saxony Division). Casualties 6 Officers wounded, O/Rks 5 killed, 64 wounded 13 missing. CWGC has 23 of the battalion killed
