Henry Cobbold was born in Rougham (3rd qtr 1889 Thingoe 4a:677), son of Alfred and Selina COBBOLD(née GOODWIN).
1891 census...Aged 2, he was at High Rougham with his father Alfred COBBOLD [42] farm labourer; his mother Selina [36]; sisters Alice [16], Harriett [15] and Ethel [7]; brother William [4]. All were born in Rougham. 1901 census...Aged 12, a farm labourer, he was at The Street, Rougham with his parents and brother William, a farm labourer. 1911 census...Aged 23, a farm labourer (now recorded as Henry John), he was at 20 New Road, Rougham with his parents. His mother had lost 4 of her 8 children. His father died in 1915. |

He enlisted in Bury St. Edmunds. His medal card states that he died of wounds. Also the card places him in the 8th Bn Suffolk Regiment.
This adds to the puzzle as the 8th Suffolks were disbanded in February 1918. The Cambridgshires were also some distance to the south west
of Guillemont at the Meaulte-Bray road, about where Albert Airport is now. The map reference for where Henry was found is clear, and the
Cambridgeshires attack on the Bary-Meaulte road is also clearly recorded. The is no record of Henry being taken by the Germans and buried
by them..a real mystery.
