HAMSTEAD (BULLER ?), Thomas Eric

No.852623, Sergeant, Thomas Eric HAMSTEAD
Aged 26
medal entitlement not known.
Royal Artillery
Killed in Accident on 19th October 1945

Thomas Eric BULLER was born in West London (4th qtr 1918 Hammersmith 1a:243) son of Grace BULLER, a domestic servant of 31 Tunis Road, North Hammersmith.
The only Hamstead - Buller marriage found was Thomas HAMSTEAD to Grace BULLER in Deben in 1948. It does not rule out Thomas (Senior) and Grace being regarded as married earlier. It could be them that are at Oak Lane, Chedburgh in the 1939 register, recorded as married.

He married Violet Audrey CHALK (Chippenham 1952). Their son was born in 1943 (Bury St. Edmunds), most probably at The Cottage, Rougham Green before the family moved to Wiltshire, to Calne. That was where his son died in 1944 aged 1.
His widow lived in Studley, near Calne, Wiltshire.

Tom was a gardener and died in an accident. He was on the A66, the main road near Newton Garth, nr North Stainmore, Westmorland (now Cumbria).
He died from injuires sustained when he was crushed by an Army Valentine self propelling gun which slid and overturned. His civilian address at the time was 107 Pound Hall, Studley, nr Calne, Wiltshire
