Albert Hunt was born in Rougham (1st qtr 1877 Thingoe 4a:576), son of Kate Ann HUNT. She married George PALFREY in 1878.

1881 census...Aged 4, he was at Nether Street, Rougham with his grandmother Sophie HUNT [53]; uncles Harry [14], labourer, and Frederick [10]. All were born in Rougham. His mother was at Nether Street, Rougham with his stepfather George PALFREY and their daughter Lily [1].

1891 census...Aged 14, a farm labourer, he was at Nether Street, Rougham with his stepfather George PALFREY [31] farm labourer; his mother Kate A [32]; half sisters Lily M [11], Rosa M [3] and Alice [9 months]; half brothers, twins Edward and Herbert [9]. All were born in Rougham.

1901 census...Not found in this census. His widowed mother was at Nether Street, Rougham with his half brothers and half sisters. His step father had died earlier in 1901.

He married Edith Louisa CLARKE [19-10-1892] in 1902

1911 census...Aged 34, a farm labourer, he was at King's Hall Street, Rougham with his wife Edith Louisa [28] and their daughter Beatrice Edith [15-5-1907] and son Bertram Charles [14-9-1908]. All were born in Rougham.
They went on to have two more children, Geoffrey Reginald [30-5-1914] and Lena Elizabeth [5-10-1915].

On the pension card his widow Edith was at King's Hall Street, Rougham. She married William Arthur BUCKLE on 25-12-1917.



He enlisted in Bury St. Edmunds.
The Germans had exploded a large mine at Hooge and the battalion attempted to seize the crater, but failed due to lack of bombs. On 30th, a further supply of bombs was obtained and an attack was planned for 2 pm. Our artillery bombardment was not very effective, but some did reach the wire, which Capt de Castro attempted to cut. The attack had to be called off, with the loss of about 120 casualties.



Albert was buried in Vieux Chien German Military Cemetery (see above) and later moved to Perth (China Wall).
