Bertram Charles PALFREY was born in Rougham (2nd qtr 1896 Thingoe 4a:789), son of Lily Maude PALFREY. She married George COCKSEDGE in 1898.
1901 census...Aged 4, as Bertram COCKSEDGE, he was at Rougham Street with his stepfather George COCKSEDGE [27] farm labourer; his mother Lily [22] and half sister Beatrice [1]. All were born in Rougham. His mother died in 1902. 1911 census...Aged 15, he was at 25 High Rougham Road, Rougham with his widower grandfather George COCKSEDGE [67], uncles Fred [34] and James [30] COCKSEDGE. All were farm labourers, born in Rougham. His half sister Beatrice May COCKSEDGE was at "near the station", Thurston with her uncle and aunt Edgar John and Louisa Maud May FEAKES. His father appears to have died in 1909. No pension card found His uncle Frederick William PALFREY died of wounds in 1916 and is buried in Rougham see here and uncle Herbert George died of wounds in 1916 see here |
