Stephen Harold James was born in Shimpling (3rd qtr 1891 Sudbury 4a:708) son of Joseph and Jane JAMES(née BOGGIS)
1901 census...Aged 9, he was "near Little Chadacre Farm", Shimpling woith his widowed mother Jane JAMES [58] monthly nurse, born Bradfield St Clare; brother Herbert [25] horseman on farm born Shimpling. In 1891 there was a boarder, 5 years old John P HARRIS (there is a remote chance this may be the "unknown" Jack Harris on the memorial). His father had died in 1894 1911 census...Aged 19, a farm labourer, he was still "near Little Chadacre" with his mother and 2 boarders, Ada May SPARKES [12] and Gladys Audrey SPARKES [11], both Sudbury born. His mother had lost 4 of her 15 children. On the pension card his mother had moved to c/o Mrs CHILDS at "The Plough", Downside, Cobham, Surrey. |
