The ends of the altar in St George's Shimpling are inscribed as the war memorials. Carved by Mr.Boynes and dedicated on 11th November 1937 by the Rev. J.Williamson. It was re-dedicated on 11th November 2007.
The inscriptions read:
South end:- in an arc over a greek cross and two panels - PARISH OF SHIMPLING ROLL OF HONOUR and 1914 1918

In 2015 a wooden wall plaque was carved by Mr Paul Woriker of Stansted and dedicated by Rev.Mathew Lawson on 8th November. This now enables everyone to read all the names
without disturbing the altar.
