Died on Saturday, 19th August 1944


Cyril COURT was born in Liverpool on 31st October 1909 (Toxteth Park-Q4-1909 8B:215), son of Charles Edward and Florence Mary COURT(née OAKES).

1911 census... Aged 17 months, he was at 13 South Street, Liverpool, with his father Charles E COURT [28] a lightship seaman; his mother Florence M [29]; sisters Emily [3] and Elsie [4 months). All were born in Liverpool


He married Cissy PETERSON (6-2-1911) in 1935 in Liverpool. In the 1939 register they were at 73 Park Hill Road, Liverpool, Cyril a marine steward (2 closed records). Their 2nd son, Cyril, was born in Liverpool in 1944

No connection with Stoke by Clare has been found, other than he is entered on the church plaque as serving in the Merchant Navy.


The SS "Wayfarer" was 5,000 ton passenger/cargo vessel, built by Connell and Co, Scotstoun. She was sunk by U-862 about 90 miles from Mozambique, en route back to UK with a cargo of copper from Colombo.
