William Wallace Dedman was born in 1881 in Thurston (Stow Q1-1881 4A:635) son of George and Emily DEADMAN (née MOUNT).

1881 census...Aged 1 month, he was at "Knights", Thurston with his father George DEADMAN [32] bricjkayer born Somersham, Hunts; his mother Emily [33] born Cavenham; brothers George [7] born Coddenham, Albert [3] born Livermere and Orlando [1] born Livermere; sister Ellen [5] born Livermere.

1891 census...Aged 10, he was at Leys, Tostock with his parents; sister Ellan; brothers Albert and Nathaniel (Orlando) and a boarder Harry Hurkett [7 months] born Beyton.

1901 census...Aged 20, He was in the Suffolk Regiment at St Peter Port, Guernsey.

His brother Nathaniel Orlando, who had married and moved to the Isle of Wight, was killed in Belgium in 1915.



He enlisted in Thurston on 19th October 1900 and died of disease at Vryburg.


He was in the 26th Mounted Infantry, then the 1st Battalion, Suffolk Regiment. He was captured and released on 31/03/1902 at Boschbult



He is commemorated on the Boer War Memorial on Cornhill, Bury St.Edmunds
