Ernest Charles Everitt was born in Tostock (4th qtr 1886 Stow 4a:715), son of George and Eliza EVERITT (née PLUME).

1891 census...Aged 4 he was at Leys, Tostock with his father George EVERITT [46] carpenter; his mother Eliza [41] born Great Welnetham; brothers Robert [13], Alfred [6], Ambrose [2] and Samuel [3 months]; sister Eliza [9]. All except his mother were born in Tostock.

1901 census...Aged 14, he was at Tostock Leys with his parents; sisters Augusta [27] and Eliza; brothers George [25] platelayer on GER, William,, [12], Sidney [8], John [7] and Fredric (sic)[5].

1911 census...Aged 22 ? a brickmaker, he was still at Tostock Leys with his parents; sister Augusta; brother John; and Sidney, Fredric and Edward [2] now recorded as cousins





He enlisted in Bury St. Edmunds.

There is no war diary for this day, entries for June 1916 end on 21st when they were in billets in BRAY, but Walter was one of the two from the battalion to be killed that day according to CWGC.
His was the battalion noted for kicking a football in front of them during the ill fated 1st July assault a few days later.
