George Robert Vincent Peasey was born in Tostock (1st qtr 1885 Stow 4a:743), son of George Hubert and Minnie Amelia PEASEY (née PEASEY).

1891 census...Aged 6, he was at Norton Road, Tostock with his father George PEASEY [49] labourer; his mother Amelia [29]; sisters Minnie [8] and Harriet G [4]. All were born in Tostock

1901 census...none found in this census. Both his parents died in 1902 and are buried in Tostock.

1911 census...Aged 23 (sic) he was a Private in the 1st Battalion, Suffolk Regiment in Egypt.

The pension card has his sister Minnie CLARKE at Cedar Hurst, Bath Road, Cheltenham.



He enlisted in Bury St. Edmunds.

He was a prisoner of war, dying of illness in hospital at Giessen, buried in Giessen Military Cemetery (70km north of Frankfurt) and moved after the war to Niederzwehren. The International Red Cross records do not say where or when he was captured and there is nothing in the Bury Free Press.
