EDGELEY, F {rank}

No.4835, Private, F. EDGELEY
Aged ?

1st Battalion, Suffolk Regiment
He died of illness on 2nd April 1900

It is not always possible to match the soldier with the civilian with these Boer War casualties.
That means I can only record "most likely to be" in many cases for the civilian identity

Reputably from Wickhambrook, in this case I cannot fnd any Frank EDGELEY or EDGLEY fitting the necesary parameters for birth even, certainly not in Suffolk. There was a Frank born Hundon and one in Glemsford but the ages seem wrong. Of course plenty lied about their age to enlist.

Elsewhere he is recorded as Frank, most records just give F. Even so, the Frederick EDGELEY born Wickhambrook 1877 does not appear to have been this casualty, seemingly not dying until 1960

He died of enteric fever at Prieska, Northern Cape. His Queens South Africa medal carries the clasp for Cape Colony

F. Edgley is commemorated the Boer War Memorial, Cornhill, Bury St.Edmunds
also St Mary's Church. North aisle west end. Suffolk Regiment Tablet, Bury St Edmunds
Christchurch Park. Statue. Ipswich
