Robert William Pettit was born on 19th January 1922 in Sudbury (Sudbury Q1-1922 4A:1634), son of Robert and Florence PETTIT (née SKEETS) of Sudbury.

He was educated at Sudbury Grammar from September 1933 to April 1935 when he went to Culford School. He was first employed by the Town Council. In the 1939 register, he was not yet employed. living at "St Olaves", 2 Priory Road, Sudbury with his father Robert [13-12-1887] Town Clerk/ local billeting officer, and his mother Florence [28-1-1888].


Mobilised in 1941 in the R.A.F. he served in India, then Burma. Due home in 1946 he sadly fell ill and was admitted to No.61 Indian General Hospital in Rangoon, where he died on 12th December 1945.

Robert Pettit is buried in Rangoon War Cemetery, Myanmar, grave 1:B:16
and commemorated on the Sudbury war memorial.
