Raymond Robert Seppings ROLFE was born 1920 (Hendon Q3-1920 3A:717), son of Seppings and Alice Mary ROLFE (née PAYNE).

He was a member of the 3rd (Culford School) Bury St.Edmunds Scouts

In the 1939 register, at 73 Horringer Road, Bury St.Edmunds, were his father Seppings [13-4-1884] textiles salesman and Observer Corps; his mother Alice M [17-2-1886] and his sister Gwendoline A [9-2-1914].


On 19th March 1943, Handley Page Halifax Mk V, ser.no. DG244, sqn id. MA-Y took off at 19:50 hours from RAF Tempsford. Believed to have been on a supply drop to the Norwegian resistance.
RAF Tempsford was the base for many "special " missions. They were headed for the area of Nottoden, site of a "heavy water " plant and it is also believed they were to drop an agent into the Larvik area. Lost without trace, it is believed the aircraft was claimed as his first kill by Oblt Werner Spiedel of 10 NJG 3 at 23:28 30 km north west of Skagen on the Skagerrak.
