John Stewart ROSE's birth registration had not been identified. He was the son of Clifford and Mary ROSE (née STEWART).

In the 1939 register, at Hawthorn House, Hilgay were his parents, Clifford ROSE [10-2-1889] a farmer; his mother Mary [2-5-1898]; brother Kenneth S [21-2-1931]; and a married woman, Margaret H BAILLIE [20-8-1896].
According to the Memorial Books he was resident in Croydon.

His brother Kenneth was killed serving in Malaya in the Gordon Highlanders in 1952 see here



The war diary has not yet been found.
His was one of the re-interments (identified by a cross on his original grave) from scattered sites on 25th October 1944. In fact his date of death on the concentration card has been altered to 28th October 1943. On 28th, 2 other Gordon Highlanders died, they are buried in Minturno War Cemetery.
