Clement War Rush was born in Witnesham in 1890 (3rd qtr 1890 WOODBRIDGE 4a:841) son of Robert and Amy RUSH (née GARROD)
1891 census...Aged 11 months, he was at Farm House, Bye Road, Witnesham with his father Robert RUSH [37] farmer; his mmother Amy [29] born Westerfield; brothers Wilfred R [5]and Charles [3], Eustace E [2]. All except his mother born in Witnesham. 1901 census...Aged 10, he was at Free Wood Street, Bradfield St.George with his parents; brothers Wilfred, Charles, Eustace, Harold [9], Raymond [4], Herbert [2], Leonard [1] and Albert (under 1 month}; sisters Susie [7], Daisy [6] and Hilda [5]. The elder children all born in Witnesham. All the children from Raymond onwards were born in Bradfield St George 1911 census...Aged 20, a gents outfitters manager, he was boarding with the KIRBY famiyl at "Ingleby" Station Road, Boreham Wood. The family were Broome Hall, Bradfield St George, with two more boys, Kenneth Frederick [8] and Robert Cecil [6]. All of his mother's 14 children still survived. His brother Harold was killed in Gallipoli in 1915 serving in the Australian Army see here He married Alice Edith CUTTING (3rd qtr 1916 Bury St.Edmunds). Yet to discover what the 2nd SMCC (M.T.C.) was, the MTC is obviously Motor Transport Company. He was commissioned 19th July 1916 The battalion was involved in the attack on 3rd December on German positions in the Thiepval, Schwaben Redoubt area . Clement was in "B" Company. There are several pages covering this in the war diary, too extensive for here. Of the 450 of the battalion who started the assault, 350 became casualties, 111 of them killed and of them 76 have no known grave. The whole attack was a complete failure
