Harold Rush was born in Witnesham (1st qtr 1892 Woodvbridge 4a:887) son of Robert and Amy RUSH (née GARROD)
1901 census...Aged 9, he was at Free Wood Street, Bradfield St.George with his parents; brothers Wilfred, Charles, Eustace, Clenent, Raymond [4], Herbert [2], Leonard [1] and Albert (under 1 month}; sisters Susie [7], Daisy [6] and Hilda [5]. The elder children all born in Witnesham. All the children from Raymond onwards were born in Bradfield St George 1911 census...Aged 19, he was at Broome, Hall, Bradsfield St George Broome Hall, Bradfield St George, with two more boys, Kenneth Frederick [8] and Robert Cecil [6]. He enlisted on 6th October 1914 at Guildford, Western Australia, giving his age as 22 years 11 months, a farm mhand born at Witnesham, father R.Rush,
Broome Hall, Bradfield, Suffolk. 5 feet 7 inches tall, chest 33 to 35 inches, he weighed 140 lbs, blue eyes, fair hair, Church of England.
He embarked for Gallipoli on 16th May 1915 His personal possession returned were Disc, Letter, Post Cards, Wallet, Fountain Pen and Mirror Burial records muddled, one says Shrapnel Terrace, another has Russells Top 5:I;3 yet another has Russels Top 80:N:7, exhumed and moved to Walkers Ridge 2:Z:4 In fact the details should be read as Killed at Walkers Ridge, buried at Shrapnel Terrace, Russel's Top and later moved to Walker's Ridge Cemetery (1923). Details of the action haven ot been found, suffice it to say, 83 of the 10th Light Horse died that day, 4 of them rest in Walker's Ridge Cemetery.
