(from the Scotland 1901 census)...James McManus aged 11 living at 33 Bruce Street, Glasgow Maryhill, son of Charles [42] a slater born in Glasgow and Maggie [39] born in Glasgow; sister Mary Ann [15]; brothers Andrew and Charles both recorded as aged 13 and brother David [8] all born in Glasgow. He married in Q3-1914 to Emily Frances TOMLIN (born Hunstanton). They lived at 5 Rutland Terrace, All Saints Road, Newmarket. Emily had 2 girls Mona Maud, Maria Moira and a boy John M. When his daughter Mona was born he was at 5 Rutland Terrace, All Saints Road, Newmarket and was a stableman. He is in the Kelly's directory for Newmarket 1916 as a shopkeeper in All Saints Road, Newmarket, but gives no trade details. It appears that Emily not only lost her husband but two brothers as well in WW1, and her son in law William WADE in WW2 (he married Maria Moira TOMLIN). Albert TOMLIN ... Sydney TOMLIN... He enlisted in Newmarket (SDGW). At the time of his death the 9th Gordons seemed to be having a quiet time, only a few killed each day in the Ypres Salient,only 3 on the 9th, and all have identified graves. |
