Born 1888 (4th qtr Bury St Edmunds 4a:687) son of Elijah and Eleanor HUNT (née MOTHERSOLE)

1891 census...Aged 2, he was at 5 Reed's Buildings, Chalk Lane, Bury St.Edmunds with his father Elijah HUNT [32] foundry labourer born Rougham; his mother Eleanor [30] born Livermere; brother Herbert [9] and sister Elizabeth [6]. The children all born in Bury St.Edmunds.

1901 census...Aged 12, he was still at 6 Reed's Buildings with his parents; brothers Herbert (hardware shop porter), twins Alfred and George [8]; sisters Annie [3] and Ruth [11 months].

1911 census...Not found in this census. His parents were still at 6 Reed's Buildings with Alfred, George, Annie and Ruth.

He married Lily Elizabeth LOMAX [22-3-1889] in 1913 in Bury St.Edmunds...later of 44 Crown Street, Bury St Edmunds. Their son, Maurice Arthur Henry, was born 25th March 1915.

He enlisted in Bury St.Edmunds. His photo shows the Suffolk Regiment badge, so was taken before he went to the BEF. On 1st August 1917 the battalion were operating in the Zwarte Leen area, just south of Zillebeke. They held the line until the night of 1st/2nd August when they were relieved by the 10th R.West Surreys. The relief was carried out with great difficulty owing to the amount of rain that had fallen in the previous 40 hours 40 others ranks were wounded and 41 were missing.
