He enlisted in Bury St Edmunds in the Suffolk Yeomanry. They had to leave their horses behind when proceeding to Gallipoli and at the start of 1917 became the 15th (Yeomanry)
Battalion, Suffolk Regiment. Dying of his wounds it is not possible to be exact about his wounding, but more than likely he was wounded during the capture
of Jerusalem on 8th/9th December.
