Born in Kennett (1st qtr 1890 Newmarket 3b:528 ) son of Benjamin Henry and Eleanor Maria TWEED(née BORLEY)

1891 census...Aged 1, he was at New Street, Chippenham, Cambs with his grandfather John BORLEY [54] bootmaker born Walsham le Willows; his grandmother Susannah [56] born Bury St.Edmunds; aunt Dora BORLEY [16], uncle Sidney BORLEY [11] both born Chippemham; his mother Eleanor TWEED [27] born Chippenham and his brother Benjamin [3]. His father has not been found in this census, as a railwayman, he could have been anywhere.

1901 census...Aged 11, he was at 3 Etna Road, Bury St.Edmunds with his father Benjamin TWEED [38] railway porter born Cheveley; his mother; brothers Ralph E [9] born Kennett, Jubilee Jack [3] and Spencer [1] the latter 2 born in Bury St.Edmunds; sisters Amy [7] and Hilda [5], both born Bury St.Edmunds. Brother Benjamin was still with his widower grandfather John Borley in Chippenham.

1911 census...Aged 21, in dying and cleaning, he was at 92 Fornham Road, Bury St.Edmunds with his parents; brothers Jack, Spencer and Charles [8]; sister Eva [10]

He married Harwich born Alice Annie NEVARD [21-1-1885] in 1915 in Bury St.Edmunds, later of 9 Risbygate Street, Bury St.Edmunds. Their son Pierre Cyril was born 17-7-1916 in Bury St.Edmunds.
His father died in 1917. The family had moved later to Stockhold Green, Thurston.

His brother Ralph was killed in France in 1916, exactly one year earlier see here


He enlisted in Bury St.Edmunds.

The battalion was in dugouts at Zillebeke 28.I.17.c.4.8. at Half Way House . The enemy shelled the dugouts and trenches with gas shells during the evening. Casualties 2 officers and 9 OR wounded, one OR killed.
