1891 census...Aged 1, he was at Hole Farm, Chevington with his father William COCKLE [53]farm labourer born Rede; his mother Myra [22] born Brighton; brother George [3] born Depden. 1901 census...Aged 11, he was at Bury Road, Chedburgh with his parents, brothers George and Frederick [9] born Chevington; sisters Lilie [5], Mabel [3] and Lucy [4 months]. The sisters all born in Chedburgh. His father died in 1905 1911 census...Aged 21, farm labourer, he was at Rookery Yard, Chedburgh with his widowed mother; brothers Frederick {farm labourer}, Herbert [7], William [3] and Albert [7 months]; sisters Mabel, Lucy and Melinda [5]. The new siblings all born in Chedburgh He married Daisy Mahala LOMAX [11-8-1892] in 3rd qtr 1915, their son Frederick Harry Claud was born 18-10-1916 On the pension card his widow was at The Rectory, Depden His brother in law Harry James LOMAX (Suffolk Regt) died of illness in Shoreham in 1918 see here |

He enlisted in Chedburgh
With no service record found and dying of his wounds, presumably at a Casualty Clearing Station in Bray, it is impossible to be specific about when and where he was wounded. The Battalion did suffer quite badly in 1st March
