Ernest Edward Baker was born in 1884 in Hartest(3rd qtr 1884 Sudbury 4a:631) son of Robert Christopher and Jane BAKER(née OSBORNE)

1891 census...Aged 6, he was at Cook's Cottages, hartest with his father Robert BAKER [47] farm labourer born Hartest; his mother Jane [40] born Somerton; brothers George [17] farm labourer born Whepstead, Harry [9] and Arthur [1] both born Hartest; sisters Edith [15] born Whepstead and Alice [3] born Hartest.

1901 census...Aged 16, a farm labourer, he was at Hartest Hill with his widowed mother; sister Edith; brothers George, Harry (both farm labourers) and Arthur. His father had died in 1891

1911 census...Aged 26, a farm labourer, he was at Hartest Hill with his mother.

On the pension card his mother was at Hartest Hill.

His brother Harry was killed in April 1918 see here


He enlisted in Bury St.Edmunds
The battalion was in Reserve in the Arras sector and had four killed that day.
