Harry Israel Baker was born in Hartest (4th qtr 1881 SUDBURY 4a:575) son of Robert Christopher and Jane BAKER(née OSBORNE)

1891 census...Aged 9, he was at Cook's Cottages, Hartest with his father Robert BAKER [47] farm labourer born Hartest]; his mother jane [40] born Somerton; brothers George [17] farm labourer born Whepstead, Ernest [6] and Arthur[1] both born Hartest; sisters Edith [15] born Whepstead and Alice [3] born Hartest.

1901 census...Aged 19, a farm labourer he was at Hartest Hill with his widowed mother; sister Edith, brothers George and Ernest (both farm laburers) and Arthur.His father had died in 1891

He married Rose STURGEON in 1908

1911 census...Aged 29, a bricklayer's labourer, he was at Hartest Hill with his wife Rose [25]; son Harold Harry [2] and daughter Eilenn Rose [1]. All born in Hartest

On the pension card his widow was at The Hatch, Hartest with their children, Harold Harry [4-8-1908], Eileen Rose [14-2-1910], Edith Margaret [21-5-1912], Fred [14-3-1916] and Harry leslie [24-10-1918]

His brother Ernest was killed in France in 1916 see here


He enlisted in Bury St.Edmunds
The battalion was at Fleurbaix and were in action from 9th to 13th. 45 were killed on 12th, not one has a known grave.
