Edward James Crack was born in Horringer (1st qtr 1885 Thingoe 4a:705) son of John Cuthbert and Caroline CRACK (née BOLLINGBROKE). CWGC have his age wrong.
1891 census...Aged 6, he was at The Street, Horringer with his father John CRACK [39] farm labourer; mother Caroline [37]; sisters Eva []12], Flora [10], Annie [7] and Kate [2]; brothers Edgar [4] and Lionel [1]. All were born in Horringer. 1901 census...Aged 16, a gas fitter, he was still at The Street, Horringer with his parents; sister Kate, brothers Edgar, Thomas [11], Oliver [7] and Albert [4]. 1911 census...Aged 28, he was a Corporal Shoeing Smith in the Royal Field Artillery at the 17 Ammunition Depot, Ihansi, India. His parents were still in Horringer with his sister Kate. His mother had lost 2 of her 11 children In 1915 he entered the Freemasons Rock Of Gevalior Lodge of Peshawar in Ihansi. His military history is very sparse. Having just the British War medal indicates that he did not serve in a war zone, presumbably in India
the whole time during the war.
