Charles Ernest Campan was born on 18th February 1915 in Shimpling (1st qtr 1915 Sudbury 4a:1739) son of Charles and Ruth (née MORTLOCK)
In the 1939 register, a builder's labourer, he was with his parents at 2 Gents Lane, Shimpling

The 2nd/6th Queen's took part in what may well be the longest approach march over 3,313 miles accomplished in 31 days, from Iraq to Tunisia, being sent into
action the day they arrived at the front. He was wounded on 18th October 1943. They then took part in the invasion of Italy. Charles would have been killed in the assault of Salerno With not having the Army maps we cannot say here where Charles was initially buried, but he was re-interred later in Coriano.
